Decades of Memories…

Standard

Earlier today I mentioned wanting to recognize my parent’s 60th birthdays.  I’ve got a couple of years to go still…but my mind is already reeling with ideas!

How great would it be to do this project:

{60 Years of Memories}

…60 letters all containing different memories from six decades!

Check out how to do this project on Nothing But Bonfires!

Goal Two: The “Do” in “DIY!”

Standard

Anyone else out there love Pinterest?  I’m a bit obsessed…honestly I can’t get enough of it!!  However, I do need to get better about actually following through and “doing”…rather than just “pinning!”

I need to cook the meals, mix the drinks, paint the walls, sew the dress, knit the scarf, make the earrings, style my hair…etc.  Pinterest has just become my one big to-do list…and my second goal for 2012 is to start the “Do” in “Do It Yourself!!”

Here are two projects I pinned awhile ago from In Honor of Design…and just got the supplies for!  Let the “doing” officially begin!!

As the New Year approaches I find that along with getting excited for all the new experiences that lay ahead, I also enjoy reminiscing about the joys of the past year!

Wouldn’t it be fun to open up a memory jar on New Year’s Eve!!

S’mores Please…

Standard

S’mores are just so good.  I mean really good.  Finger-licking good.

With the weather becoming just right for gathering around a bonfire or fire pit…I think having a S’mores Kit on hand would be an extra special touch!

DIY: Portable Fire Pit…

Standard

{Portable Fire Pit, photo via Design*Sponge}

Seriously how cool is this idea for a portable fire pit from Design*Sponge?  It’s the perfect option for someone who doesn’t have a lot of outdoor space or can’t afford a fire pit (i.e.: me).  I think I’m going to enlist my brother to help me with this one…just in time for cool, fall nights!  Click here or any of the photos for DIY instructions from Design*Sponge!

P.S.  I’m excited that I received Design*Sponge at Home by Grace Bonney in the mail the other day!  Can’t wait to page through it and become inspired!

Postcard Poster Project…

Standard

There are so many creative people out there…one such being Jordan from Oh Happy Day.  She teamed up with Yahoo!Mail to create this special DIY project entitled Postcard Birthday Poster.  It sounded perfect for my best friend’s 30th birthday…especially because many of his close friends & family live in other states.

Jordan’s blog post comes complete with step-by-step directions, beautiful photographs & even all 25 downloadable postcards.  Since I was in a time crunch & going for 30 and not 25 postcards I created a word document which I took to FedEx/Kinkos to have blown up, laminated & cut into the 30 (4 ¼ X 6”) postcards.

I sent out all of the pre-addressed & stamped postcards with directions to the intended 30 friends & family at the end of June.  That way all through-out the month of July my friend started receiving the postcards.

Unbelievably the last of the cards arrived the day before his July 29th Birthday.  It was so special hearing how his confusion at first turned into excitement and anticipation as the poster slowly came together.

I loved receiving text messages with him proudly declaring his progress…

I highly encourage anyone out there to try this little poster project…it was a big hit, packaged with a lot of love!  And check out Oh Happy Day for many more ingenious ideas!
