Goal Two: The “Do” in “DIY!”

Standard

Anyone else out there love Pinterest?  I’m a bit obsessed…honestly I can’t get enough of it!!  However, I do need to get better about actually following through and “doing”…rather than just “pinning!”

I need to cook the meals, mix the drinks, paint the walls, sew the dress, knit the scarf, make the earrings, style my hair…etc.  Pinterest has just become my one big to-do list…and my second goal for 2012 is to start the “Do” in “Do It Yourself!!”

Here are two projects I pinned awhile ago from In Honor of Design…and just got the supplies for!  Let the “doing” officially begin!!

Holiday Traditions…

Standard

Do you have any favorite Christmas traditions?  I’m not married, nor do I have children…but something has me itching to start a new holiday tradition with my parents and brother this year!

Here’s some ideas & inspiration:

  1. Create a CD, Pandora station, Grooveshark, or iPod playlist with your favorite Christmas songs for each year.
  2. Make a homemade Christmas ornament(s) each year (See here for ideas).
  3. Buy (or make) a new Christmas ornament that represents something special from that year.
  4. Host a cookie decorating party.
  5. Drive around & look at Christmas lights (bring snacks & hot cocoa…don’t forget to blast the X-Mas music).
  6. Attend your local Christmas parade (“Holidazzle” here in the Twin Cities) or visit a living nativity.
  7. Watch your favorite Christmas movies (see who can quote the most lines by heart).
  8. Decorate a gingerbread house.
  9. Check your local botanical gardens for any Christmas events (Como Zoo Conservatory here in Twin Cities).
  10. Have a special Christmas breakfast or brunch.
  11. Have a “sleepover” around the Christmas tree.
  12. Buy matching new PJs for Christmas Eve.
  13. On Christmas Day, give the family a new game. Then play it that afternoon!
  14. Volunteer (serve a meal to the homeless, sing carols to the elderly, give a gift to the needy, etc).
  15. See a Christmas show (Some in MN: The Nutcracker Ballet, A Christmas Carol play, All is Calm show, etc).
  16. Elf your friends or neighbors!
  17. Get creative with an Elf on the Shelf…so cute!
  18. Make a fun advent calendar (See here & here for ideas).
  19. Host a goofy & cheap party for your friends (White Elephant, Ugly Sweater, etc).
  20. Try out a Christmas tradition from across the globe (See here for ideas).

…Do you have any suggestions for unique or fun holiday traditions?
