Embroidered Dance…

Standard

“To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love.”

~Jane Austen

I’m awfully fond of the beauty that is dance…and I’m falling a bit in love with these gorgeous creations from artist Jose Romussi.  He has taken old photographs of dancers and embroidered them with brightly colored thread…

Pretty lovely effect, huh…be sure to check out more of Romussi’s work here.

P.S. Have you heard about the documentary First Position?  It follows six talented ballet dancers (ages nine to nineteen) on their way to one of the most prestigious youth ballet competitions in the world.  Looks fantastic…I’m planning on seeing it this weekend.

Layers of Color…

What does your eye see when you look at these paintings…

Artist Tobias Tovera says this about the vibrant color paintings:

“In my artwork, I am interested in discovering transmuted spaces, places where energy shifts, changes, or renews itself. Through an exploration of the interstices between opposing elements, such as nature and artifice or chaos and order, I wish to explore entropic systems where healing may occur. I want my audience to be left with question and confronted by a raw sense of what it means to be human.”

Ever & Ever After…

Standard

Valentine’s Day has come and gone…but love appears to still be on my mind!

I’ve been checking out this sweet project by photographer Lauren Fleishman, which she describes as…

Love Ever After will share the love stories of couples who have been married for at least 50 years. Inspired by a letter my grandfather wrote to my grandmother during World War II (and rediscovered after he passed away in 2007), I began photographing and interviewing couples in the New York area as a way to preserve their stories and to illuminate our universal experience of love.

Here are a few of the lovely photographs…

…Be sure to check out Lauren Fleishman’s site to read about these adorable couples and more stories of enduring love.

P.S. Have you seen these two cute videos of sweet, older couples?
